What a wonderful time we had at the first of our Heritage Open Day Memory Cafes at St Columbas Church in North Shields on Saturday 14th September.
Norma McAvoy and her team of enthusiastic volunteers made us feel very welcome, and they’d really pushed the boat out in terms of getting people to come in and share their Fish Quay memories with us.
There were so many highlights, and we listened to some fascinating stories and tales that you’ll just not find in history books – and that’s the point of The North Shields Heritology Project – to capture these memories before they’re lost forever and bring them to life for a new generation using new technologies like Virtual Reality and Immersive Sound.
The nex step will be to visit these people to actually record their memories using our new Oral History Recorders funded by Karbon Homes.
Three of our Team have been trained on Oral History Techniques and can’t wait to get started!
